Nadine holds several fitness certifications through AFAA, Cooper Institute of Aerobics Research, YMCA of the USA, IMX Pilates, and Tai-Chi/Qi-Gong studies at the Qi- Gong Institute of Rochester. In addition to teaching Pilates Mat classes and Tai Chi/Qi-Gong at the GBY studio, Nadine has been a Physical Therapist Assistant Student at GCC and will be graduating in June 2013 after completion of her clinical work at Callan-Harris Physical Therapy in Rochester that specializes in Performing Arts Therapy, Lymphedema, and Scoliosis.
Nadine has an extensive background in fitness and although she has instructed a variety of “mainstream” fitness classes over the past 20 years Nadine says she has “always been pulled towards a more holistic approach to fitness than conventional methods” that led to the creation of her “East Meets West” class, a combination of traditional “western” resistance exercises joined with “eastern” positioning for the purpose of developing a holistic, mindful, and integrative approach to foster health and well-being while reducing stress and pain from repetitive injuries. Her mindset was put to the test when starting in 2008, a series of “life altering painful events” forced her to make unexpected changes in her life that gave her experiential teaching lessons. . Nadine specializes in holistic “whole body exercise”, utilizing a variety of methods including somatics (body awareness stretching promoting neuromuscular function), myofascial connective tissue release (slow, innovative “move-breathe” routines), Tai- Chi/Qi-Gong (gentle flowing movements that promote balance, coordination, and overall feelings of well-being…described as “meditation in motion”), Pilates (total body conditioning with emphasis on core strength/stability, muscle balance, and flexibility), and postural balance training (a series of progressive standing exercise routines designed to promote strong upright postural muscles while increasing balance proficiency).
“My goal, through instruction of synergistic holistic “whole body exercise”, is to help those in need of finding and maintaining balance in their lives in a strong yet gentle, disciplined while flexible, and nurturing way.”
Namaste…Nadine.
